This week was a bit of a strange one for all of us. We went into the week with our own respective goals, but after reading the requirements for the first playable, we all had to recalibrate our goals to better match them. For me, this meant moving away from animating the boss character as initially planned, and working on the environment tiles for the level we plan to be playable in the next week or two.
Tileset - Tower Base:
The main chunk of work I did this week was create a tileset for the first level of our game, the tower base. Since Nathan was beginning work on implementing the map and level design, he needed actual tiles to place in the map which led to the creation of the tileset above. The Tileset features 9 base tiles which will be used to create the various walls and platforms in the level, as well as several variations on those tiles to fit certain specific situations. The corner pieces for example will be used in the corners of rooms so the transitions between floor and wall tiles look more smooth. The thin platform on the top is also a notable addition as I know that several of the rooms that Nathan designed require these thinner platforms for precise platforming challenges.
Reflection
While this week did prove to be a more challenging one due to the shifting of goals, I am actually quite happy with the work I managed to produce. I know that Nathan needs some spikes and other level obstacles to be made, and Jonathan requested a bit more variation in the pattern of the tiles to avoid too much repetition, so those will be things I'll be working on in the future.
For now though, my goals for next week are:
Complete tiles of spikes and any other required level obstacles for the tower base.
Help Herman create sprites for the rest of the enemies in the tower base.
That's all from me for now, til next time.
