This week we continued work towards our beta code submission, with he level designers really putting time in to further develop and refine the gameplay. During this, I found myself recording sounds at home to really start to bring life to the many characters, player and enemy, that we had created up until this point.
Sound Effects
The meat of my work this week as mentioned went into producing sound effects for the game. With the added sound effects I completed this week, we now have 14 out of the required 20 sound effects for the beta code. Considering the submission is coming soon, I plan to finish the remaining 6 sound effects by the end of tomorrow. In fact, I am in the process of recording a few while I'm writing this.
Spiky Chandelier
The second piece of minor work I contributed to this week was the conceptual planning of the spiky chandelier asset. Earlier in the week Nathan approached me about making a chandelier swinging platform with spikes attached to it. The idea being that the spikes would increase platforming challenge as the player got into later parts of the second and third levels, ember's rise and vermillion summit respectively. After discussing the logistics of how the hitbox would work, we concluded that I would need to create a separate asset with extra space on the sides for the spikes. For now, we've created the pictured placeholder asset until I create the new spiky chandelier asset, likely after I get sound effects finished.
Reflection
I admittedly didn't get that much work done this week compared to my teammates, which is a little concerning considering our beta code submission is right around the corner. As such my goals for next week, or more specifically tomorrow, are as follows:
Finish recording all remaining sound effects
Complete the Vermillion Summit level tileset
Help complete any other needed assets if I have time
That's all from me for now, til next time.
