Week 10- Spark, Sound Rolling

This week was a bit of a slower week for me personally as my other classes are starting to get heavier much like this one as we near the end of the semester. However, I couldn't stand by and do nothing as my group worked hard towards the beta code, so I managed to get work done on two things: lights(in a sense) and sound.


Chandelier Moving Platform







The first thing I managed to get done this week was the chandelier moving platform for the tower base and ember's rise levels. I had set out to complete this the week before, and I while it was later than I wanted it to be I still managed to get it done. The chandelier actually went under a few design changes, as I was communicating with Nathan to create a design that would be easy to manage a hitbox around. We ended up with the above pictured chandelier with a mostly flat platform section to allow for easy collision with the rest of the game.


Sound Effects


Originally, my plan for this week was to finish the chandelier moving platform as well as the final version of the ashen statue, so that all assets for the first two levels of the game are complete. However, Jonathan asked me to start on the sound effects as he was starting on music, and sound was becoming more of a priority. As such after finishing the chandelier moving platform, I immediately started to record and create sound effects as requested. Currently I have versions of 5 out of the required 20 sound effects for the game, and a plan to foley all of the others by a week before the beta code is due. This will likely be my highest priority going into the next week.


Reflection

I admittedly didn't get as much work done this week as I wanted to, and as such I'm really going have to pick things up going into the next week. Seeing as we have the submission of our beta code just on the horizon, my focus will be on completing all the remaining sound effects, as well as the visual assets for the final section of the game. As such my goals will be as follows:

  • Complete recording and creating all required sound effects.

  • Complete tileset for the vermillion summit level

  • Refine existing assets, such as the ashen statue if I have time
