Week 8 - Alpha

This week was very busy, as we got ready for the alpha build. A lot of stuff had to be completed in time to meet the deadline.


For this alpha build, there were a few things we had to implement this week. First, was the full area layout. We needed the first area done so that all enemies could be placed for playtesting.



Next were enemies. Our plan for this area was to include three enemies with different moves: the Ash Bat, the Hogash, and the Small Golem. The Ash Bat is a weak enemy that charges the player when they get in range. The Hogash is the same, but doesn't chase the player. Instead it charges in one direction when aggro'd. The last one, the Stone Golem, is very slow, but has more health than everything else and throws a rock projectile at the player.


Next, we needed to implement the tinder system, as it was important for our upgrade loop. Tinder dropped from enemies and tinder caches that granted a large amount of tinder were implemented. Along with this, we also implemented the HUD that showed the player's health and tinder left.



We also implemented healing, as a way for the player to recover health if they made a mistake or time was running out.


Next, we implemented the upgrade statues for the player to find. We placed two of these statues in the level, that granted the player either the dash or wall jump ability.


Once everything was created for the alpha build, we created our alpha build and sent it out to testers.


For next week, we will be addressing the many bugs and issues raised during playtesting, and will be beginning to implement the final two levels in preparation for the beta build.
