This week's focus was to start on working on the next area and finishing up the starter area. Which I accomplished finishing the starting area and repositioning the enemies within said area and I have begun thinking about the next area.
Level Design
This is the current full level design of the new starter area. The blue dots being test enemy locations and where hopefully they will be in the final game. A lot of adjustments have been made to make rooms taller as like the previous weeks. I have also added some more decorative features to make the rooms feel less square. It's kind of difficult given the room sizes and the content that was originally supposed to fit into the rooms but I think moving forward I can drastically change how I design moving forward.
Above are some close ups of previously designed rooms that have been adjusted to account for height and decorative design. The bottom image has a room in the top middle that had to be adjusted as the player could just jump across the bottom which was not desired for the bottom path, it was supposed to be a dash requirement. I added little bits on the sides of the middle panels to prevent the player from being able to just jump to the bottom platform.
Reflection
Overall I wish I could have gotten more done this week but I was unfortunately held up by my other obligations. However I am excited to be done this starting area for now and work on something new. I plan to implement tinder caches next week and swinging platforms for real and the starting rooms of the next area. Come back next week for more exciting updates!
